Edward F. Downey, 90, died Wednesday morning October 24th at his home in Woodstock, Vermont.

Mr. Downey was born on September 9, 1922 in Newark, New Jersey the son of Edward J. and Louise (Carle) Downey.

Mr. Downey served in the United States Navy during World War II. When he returned home from the service in 1945 he married his high school sweetheart Irene Hoffmeyer.

Mr. Downey created and incorporated a tool and die business and was active in raising his family in Pluckemin, NJ. In 1970 Mr. Downey followed his passion for skiing and moved his family to Woodstock Vermont, where he able to opened a second location for his business.

Mr. Downey enjoyed activities in the outdoor life. He was an avid skier and enjoyed fly fishing and power walking. He also found great joy in the restoration of his 1926 Bentley that he used for many years to tour different parts of the world with his wife Irene and friends. He remained an active member of the North American Vintage Bentley Association until his death.

Mr. Downey is survived by his wife of 67 years Irene Downey, his four children; Peg Carton and her husband Tom, Catherine Downey, James Downey, and Thomas Downey and his wife Trina, he is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Christopher, Anne, Tom, Meg, Missy, Maggie, Eva, Lili, Jess, Nick, and Kailin and 10 great grandchildren; Iris, Oskar, Brit, Sumner, Luke, Elouise, Adrian, Liam, Aletha, and John. He is pre deceased by a daughter Louise Downey.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 29th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October28th from 2 to 4 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. Burial will follow in the Prosper Cemetery in Woodstock.
