Edith Washburn, 98, died Wednesday evening October 15th at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor, Vermont.

She was born in Taftsville, Vermont on May 30, 1916 the daughter of Clarence and Floy (Greene) Washburn. Edith lived in Taftsville until 1958. Edith graduated from Woodstock High School in 1935.

Edith purchased her own home in Windsor in 1958. Her parents lived with her until her father passed away in 1966 and her mother in 1952.

Edith conducted a Sunday school in Taftsville for 19 years. She was a clerk-typist at Cone Automatic Machine Company from 1942 until she retired in 1981. Since her retirement she volunteered at The Stoughton House and at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital gift shop since it was built in 1972 until 2001. Edith was involved in Big/Brother and Sister System. She was also employed by the local Radio Station and at Health Unlimited. She was a faithful worker for the Old South Church in Windsor since 1973. She also enjoyed caring for children.

Edith is survived by several special nieces and nephews; Margaret and John Audsley, Miriam Hammond, Penny and Wayne Hoisington, as well as others that she loved. She is predeceased by her parents , 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 3 nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday October 20th at 2:00 pm at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock, Vermont, friends may call on the family for one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock Vermont.
