Dr. Michael John Kilcullen passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 76.

Mike was born on December 15, 1949 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the third of Robert and Jeanne Kilcullen’s six children. Mike’s formal education began at Scranton Preparatory School and continued as he matriculated to the University of Scranton, graduating in 1971. He entered medical school at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and graduated in 1975. He began his residency in pediatrics at TJU in Philadelphia where he first met his wife of over 51 years, Donna Hay. He completed his training in primary care/pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in the Upper Valley, where he and Donna remained for the rest of his life.

For nearly four decades, Mike practiced primary care and pediatrics in Woodstock, Vermont, at the Ottauquechee Health Center. He committed his career to the community health and wellbeing of the children and families of Woodstock. He was one of the last visiting “country doctors”, making after hours house-calls directly to patients accompanied by his iconic black bag. Mike wore many hats in service to his community, including early childhood developmental-behavioral specialist, medical examiner, jail physician, chief medic for high school football games, on-call doctor for Suicide Six ski area and even a surprising stint as Smokey the Bear.

Mike made his home in Woodstock for over 40 years, where he and Donna raised their four children, all graduates of Woodstock Union High School. With a wide circle of good friends, Mike enjoyed many outdoor pursuits such as mountain biking, telemark skiing, kayaking and canoeing, and, often to his family's chagrin, camping.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Hay; his four children, Kevin, Kerry, Ryan and Rory; his five grandchildren, Sean, Kellan, Emmeline, Georgia and Kavya; and his five brothers Robert Jr., Thomas, Peter, Timothy and Brian.

There will be one last “Open Mike Night” in honor of his life with details to be shared at a later date.
