Richard S. Doran aka Dixie Doran, of Brownsville, Vermont, born on St. Patrick's Day, 1943, died on January 16, 2011 doing what he loved, working on his farm and caring for his animals or, as a friend says, "he died with his boots on.". Dixie was a highly respected and accomplished Horse Trainer, an Equine Sports Therapist and an active member of the Green Mountain Horse Association involved in Endurance Training and Competitive Trail riding. Most of all Dixie enjoyed riding the trails of Vermont with his equestrian friends and jamming with his musician friends.
He leaves behind two daughters; Traci Doran of West Windsor VT, Kelly Doran and son-in-law Daryl Richardson of Rehoboth MA. He also leaves his brother Thomas Doran of Hull, MA and nephew Jonathan Doran of New Bedford, MA, a sister, Lea Doran and sister-in-law Gail Cueto of Groton, CT.
A celebration of Dixie's life with all his friends both human and equine will be held in the spring at a time and date to be decided later.
