Obituary

Deborah Phillips, 92, died peacefully on Wednesday April 26, 2023 at Woodstock Terrace.

Debby was born on March 13, 1931 in Englewood, New Jersey, the daughter of Elmer Isaac Phillips, Jr. and Susan DuBois Phillips. She moved to Woodstock, Vermont when she was 16 and spent the majority of her adult life there.

Debby's education included: The Little School & Dwight School (Englewood, NJ), Dana Hall (Wellesley, MA), Skidmore College (Saratoga, NY), The University of Wisconsin, and the Boston School of Occupational Therapy (now Tufts University). She especially loved her time at Dana Hall and Skidmore and made many lifelong friends. She worked in Boston at Liberty Mutual as an Occupational Therapist early in her career, specializing in patients with prostheses.

Debby was a world traveler. She skied and traveled all over Europe, Austria, Switzerland and several other countries, She enjoyed trips to Africa, South America, Holland, and many adventures in the Caribbean; St. Croix, St. Bart's, Antigua and more. An Alaskan cruise was one of her favorite adventures. Her most treasured place in the world was the family cottage on the Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada, where she spent time almost every summer of her life.

Friends were a very important part of Debby's life. She met and stayed in touch with so many from all aspects of her life. She was happy to serve on boards for Dana Hall, Skidmore College, Tufts University, and with local organizations with good causes like the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. She enjoyed playing tennis and swimming in the summer, and skiing in the winter. She loved all animals, especially cats and dogs, and had a great love of Elkhounds.

Debby will be remembered for her charismatic, outgoing, sparkling, and cheerful personality, and her interest in the lives of everyone she met.

Debby is survived by her three siblings: Sanford I. Phillips of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, Nancy Phillips Pike of Exeter, New Hampshire, and Thomas D. Phillips and wife Nancy of Broomfield, Colorado; her eleven nieces and nephews and all of their families including greats and great-greats; and many special friends. Debby was predeceased by her dear friend and companion, John Durfee.

She will be laid to rest in the Southview Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in September with arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, P.O. Box 702, Brownsville, Vermont 05037

I've lived a life that's full

I travelled each and every highway

And more, much more than this

I did it my way
