Obituary

Dean Goodwin, 78

South Woodstock – A memorial service and celebration of life for Dean Alson Goodwin, who died suddenly on September 9, 2011, will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 4:00 pm at the South Woodstock Community Church.

Dean was born on March 1, 1933 in Dover Foxcroft, ME to Raymond and Frances Russell Goodwin. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy where he captained the football team and received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science award as well as a full tuition scholarship to Tufts University. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Licensed Professional Engineer. After serving in the Army for two years, he worked for Raytheon Corp. in Massachusetts for 38 years, retiring as an engineering manager in 1994. He was a founding member of the Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School Committee where he served for ten years, Moderator for the Town of Berlin, MA and Secretary of the Massachusetts Moderator's Association. He served on the vestry of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Marlboro, MA and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hudson, MA. He was Cubmaster and active in the Berlin Lion's Club.

After moving to South Woodstock, Vermont, he was a volunteer for the South Woodstock Fire Department and the Thompson Senior Center and a monthly platelet donor at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Harriet MacLeod Goodwin of South Woodstock; three children: Scott Russell Goodwin of North Bethesda, MD, Faith Elizabeth Feldman of Parkland, FL and Sarah Dean Orlov of Wayland, MA; their spouses: Munam Goodwin, Mitchell Feldman, M.D. and Nicholas Orlov; eight grandchildren: Kristoffer Goodwin; Ashley Elizabeth, Jacob Alexander and Matthew Whitmore Feldman; Nichole, Alexander, Sydney and Mackenzie Orlov; two brothers: Richard Alan Goodwin of Charleston, ME and Philip Ray Goodwin of Marlboro, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Joan Goodwin Hathaway.
