Rev. David B. Johnston, 90, died Sunday morning March 17th in the Hospice suite, with family present, at the Veterans Hospital in White River Jct., Vermont.

Rev. Johnston was born on February 20, 1923 in Ashland, Massachusetts the son of Bernice Etta (Brodie) and Thomas Haddon Johnston.

After Medford High School he attended Bowden College and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in WWII and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1946. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University. He was also elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1949. In 1952 he received a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School.

Rev. Johnston's work full time in the ministry began in 1952 with the Congregational Church in Bradford, VT. In 1956 he accepted a call to serve the Brockton, MA First Congregational Church until 1961.
In 1961 Rev. Johnston was called to serve the First Congregational Church of Woodstock (VT) and did so until 1985. After his retirement he supplied; Valley Bible Church, North Hartland Church, and Post Mills Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife Doris Elizabeth (Barclay) who he married in 1950 and with whom he lived out more than 62 years of happiness. He is also survived by their five sons; Thomas and his wife Elaine, Mark and his wife Nancy, Neil and his former wife Denise, Peter and his wife Allison, David and his wife Andrea and their daughter Ruth Elizabeth and her husband David, 13 beloved Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his sister Ruth Barbara Perkins, and a niece and nephew.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday March 24th at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock. Burial will take place in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, Vermont at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Woodstock (FCCW) the Classroom Building Fund, Elm Street, Woodstock, VT 05091 or the VA Medical Center, Volunteer Services, 215 No. Main Street, White River Jct., VT 05009 in memory of David Johnston.
