David K.
Fraser
April 10, 1940 – December 4, 2021
David Fraser was a great listener, avid reader, wonderful conversationalist, enthusiastic traveler, and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His insatiable curiosity about and delight in other people enriched his life and those around him.
David grew up in Bloomfield, N.J., and attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Tennessee and Germany, reaching the rank of Captain. He received a Masters degree from the University of Southern California while serving in the military, and later attended the Executive Program in Business Administration at Columbia University. After his military service, he was a sales executive in the textile industry in New York City. Later in his career, he had his own company Fraser Textiles, Inc. which represented companies in the USA, Dubai, Australia, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic.
In 1960, David met his beloved wife Peggy (Margaret Clarke Fraser) while both were in college. David and Peggy married the following year, beginning a lifetime of devotion to each other and their family. They lived in Montclair, N.J. for four decades, raising their three daughters. David cherished their family home, became a gourmet cook, and enjoyed golfing with his many friends at Montclair Golf Club. David's love of travel brought him great joy, especially trips to Italy, Ireland, Germany, and Australia. Closer to home, he enjoyed Montreal, his father's childhood home. For decades, family summer vacations on Martha's Vineyard were very meaningful to him.
Upon moving to Woodstock in 2008, he made many friends, and joined the Rotary Club and The Round Table. He and Peggy enjoyed years of new friendships and time with family in Vermont. Wherever he was, he always kept up with current events and maintained a broad perspective in his world view. David religiously watched Jeopardy!
Though reserved, David had a generosity of spirit, gregarious good nature and great wit. He had a gentle demeanor and a refined sense of the absurd. He loved to cook, research different cuisines and recipes, and host wonderful dinners with friends and family. David could find common ground with anyone anywhere in the world and he always saw the best in people.
He is survived by his wife Margaret (Peggy) of Woodstock; his daughters Elizabeth Fraser and her husband Patrick Killackey of New York City and Woodstock; Pamela Fraser of Barnard; and Katharine Fraser and her partner Byron Black of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Amelia Fraser Killackey of New York City and Woodstock; and grandson Oliver Fraser Szott of Barnard.
A celebration of David's life is being planned for later in the spring of 2022.
