Obituary

Bridgewater Corners, VT

Daniel "Dan, Danny, Boone" Bagley passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at home unexpectedly.  We are going to miss those beautiful, blue eyes and infamous laugh.

Dan was born on June 10, 1953 in Holyoke, MA to Henry Bagley, II and Ruby Simonds.  He was raised by his grandparents, Henry, Sr. and Florinda, and  aunties in Quechee on the family farm.  It was there where he developed his mischievous spirit, playing jokes and stealing pies. Farm life was hard but he never lost his love for it.  His final days were spent caring for his chickens and barn cats.

Dan graduated from Hartford High School in 1971 and served the Town of Hartford as a police officer.  Following that, he joined Leonard's Gas and Electric in Woodstock, VT where he worked for over forty years as a fuel delivery driver earning the nickname "Big Dan the Gas Man".  At Leonard's he made lifelong friendships that he considered to be more like family.  Truck driving isn't for everyone but Dan loved his routes and, especially,  his customers.

Dan was the ultimate prankster who loved a good laugh and to make everyone else laugh.  Antics include but are not limited to: the butter incident, 3D bucks, dear head box, strawberry rocks, decorated bumpers, surprise gifts left on visors, in shoes, bags, pockets, and under car seats, the rooster, and rubber band attacks. You know if you know and, if not, the family would be happy to share.

Dan loved a good game of horseshoes, cheating at UNO on family Uno nights, rides on the wheeler, and family meals.  Dan was big in stature, big in heart, big in humor, big in family.  But massive was his impact on everyone he met.

Dan is survived by partner in crime, JoAnn Morgan,  children Kelly Kangas, Daniel Bagley II, Kristi Bagley, and Katrina Gedney,  son-in-laws Michael, Jeremy, and Danny,  daughter-in-law Danielle,  beloved grandson and buddy, Joss, grandson, Colin, and  sweet granddaughter, Gracie,  furry best friends, Ruger and Jasper, siblings John, Sandra, Ginny, and Susan, his aunt Barbara, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews,  including those who held a special place in his heart, Pamela, Mary, Shane, and Jeremi, and his former wife, Cheryl.  Most importantly, he leaves behind a wealth of friends and family and we would be remiss to not mention his lifelong friend Pete Small, Bill and Eve, Steve and the Red House, and Fred Lewis.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Dan was predeceased by aunties Nellie, Patricia, Katherine, and Elizabeth, brothers, Tubby and Alan,  second parents, Winston and Hazel, and  lifelong friend, Paul Small.

A graveside service will be held at the Hilltop Cemetery in Quechee, Vermont on Friday June 10th beginning at 1:00pm

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zack's Place, PO Box 634 Woodstock, VT 05091,  to the Vermont Farm Fund, PO Box 1213 Montpelier, VT 05601, or simply make someone laugh today.
