Cynthia Bump Emerlye, 67, died Sunday morning October 29th at her home in Pomfret surrounded by family.
She was born on August 21, 1950 in Providence, Rhode Island the daughter of Paris L. Bump and Edith (Silva) Mack.
Cynthia was introduced to homey and fine crafts at a young age. Sewing, knitting, crochet, painting & drawing, carving, building, cooking, baking & canning... all taught by grandparents and parents. Along with music lessons, she was given art lessons throughout childhood. She continued this interest into High School, where she won local and state art contests. Cynthia attended Mount Holyoke College, while a communications major, her art interests, taking many classes and producing a large series of watercolor paintings, which showed and sold in a Barrington, Rhode Island gallery.
After college Cynthia married and became the mother to six beautiful children. This was her primary career for the next quarter-century. In 1990 she moved with her children to Pomfret, Vermont.
Cynthia was a member of; ISSA (International Society of Scratchboard Artists) Vermont Council on the Arts, Vermont Craft Council, and Guild of American Papercutters
A wonderful mother there are a hundred million things to say about a beautiful person and why ever must we try to describe our loved ones in words when it is our feelings which hold us closest to one and other. Cynthia's family knows just as anyone who has ever my Cynthia Emerlye that to know her was to feel her with you. It is a comfort sometimes only noticed when left behind but for anyone who spoke with her knows that shell always love you.
Cynthia is survived by her 6 children; Warren Lynch, Heather Lynch, Joshua Lynch, Benjamin Lynch, Adam Lynch, and Rachael Lynch, as well as 9 grandchildren, 2 brothers; Hans and Bradley Bump, a sister Edith Ahlers, ½ sister Amanda Bump-Bloof, and countless friends.
A celebration of Cynthia's life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist North Chapel in Woodstock on Friday November 3rd at 4:00pm followed by a reception at Artistee in South Pomfret. Cynthia art will be on display at Artistree beginning this Friday at 12:noon until November 18th.
