Charles "Charlie" Francis Nettleship III, a longtime resident of Woodstock, Vermont, West Lebanon, New Hampshire and Hingham, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 9.
A graveside ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday June 20, 2020 at Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock. All friends are welcome to attend. Social distancing practices, as required by the state, will be observed. A live-streaming and recording of the ceremony at fccw.net is being planned. Arrangements are by Cabot Funeral Home. Born January 29, 1934 in East Orange, New Jersey to Charles "CF" F. Nettleship Jr. and Lucille Norma (Severance) Nettleship. He married Carol Ann (Stright) Nettleship on January 4, 1958 in Hingham, Massachusetts. Charlie attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst studying Agricultural Science. A Cold War veteran, he served our nation in the US Navy Reserves 1951 to 1955 and US Army 1956 to 1958 at Ft. Hood, Texas and Hanau, Germany participating Operation BLUE BAT during the 1958 Lebanon crisis. After military service, he was a Safety Engineer and insurance risk underwriter for several major insurance companies throughout New England, an arson investigation instructor for the Vermont State Police, and Passenger Tramway Technician with the Vermont Department of Labor and Industry. Woodstock was his base of operations with his family from 1966 through retirement in 2001.
Charlie leaves his wife of 62 years Carol; sons LTC (Retired) Charles "Chuck" F. Nettleship IV and wife Andrea (McPherson) of Bedford, New Hampshire, Kenneth P. Nettleship and wife Daphne (Sanborn) of Turner, ME; grandchildren Charles "Chad" F. Nettleship V and wife Taylor (Curran), Molly J. Nettleship and her fiancé Tom Edelman and a very special great-grandson Hayden S. Edelman all of Boston, Massachusetts, Emma C. Nettleship and her fiancé Ensign John Lemay Jr.; Sisters Eleanor (Nettleship) Bowersox of Frederick, Maryland and June (Nettleship) Barnes of Georgetown, Texas; sister-in-law Reta (Stright) and Wilbur Good of Midlothian, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a Mayflower descendent of Richard Warren and John Billington and member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Union Veterans of the American Civil War; a Master Mason for 63 years with the Old Colony A.F. & A.M., Hingham, Massachusetts, an active volunteer with the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Twin State Detachment, and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included antique automobiles, investment research, precision tool projects, volunteering at the White River Junction Veterans Medical Center and reading.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory online or mailed to The Prouty at Friends of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center (FNCCC), One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756, with checks payable to: DH-H/The Prouty.
