Woodstock, Vermont
Carolyn Edna Martin, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Jack Byrne Palliative Care & Hospice Center in Lebanon, NH on November 3, 2021. She was born on December 7, 1944 at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital to Charles Martin, Sr. and Ethel (Blanchard) Martin. Carolyn graduated from Woodstock Union High School in the Class of 1962 and was involved in alumni activities with classmates through the years.
After high school, Carolyn worked at the Woodstock Town Offices as a secretary for Charlie Stimets, before moving on to work for Peter Gratiot at Gratiot Engineering. In 1975 she went to work for the Woodstock Visiting Nurse Association where she excelled as Office Manager. In 1994, she was chosen by her fellow employees as Co-Employee of the Year. Carolyn retired from the Visiting Nurses Association in 2006.
Carolyn was active in her younger years as a member of the Woodstock Rifle Club and held the secretarial position. She also enjoyed shooting firearms competitively. She loved Classic Country Music and took several trips to Nashville, TN to see the Grand Ole Opry, as well as other historic sites. She also traveled with friends to Washington, D.C. and Florida, as well as other locations within New England. She loved playing card games such as Cribbage and Oh Hell with family and friends and was quite competitive. She loved reading and enjoyed photography, taking many pictures of family as well as any wildlife that happened to wander into her yard from the woods.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Marilyn (Martin) Kalanges and her brother Charles Martin, Jr., both of Woodstock. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews as well as two generations of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her oldest brother Lloyd Martin and his wife Carol (Moore) Martin.
Carolyn will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We take comfort in knowing Carolyn is resting in peace after a courageous fight against cancer.
A graveside service will be held at the Plymouth Notch Cemetery in Plymouth, Vermont on Tuesday July 5, 2022 beginning at 2:00pm.. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center or the Jack Byrne Palliative Care & Hospice Center in Lebanon, NH.
