Sonoita, AZ
Bruce Ora Fullerton, 83, passed away September 25 th , 2021, at his home in Sonoita, AZ with his wife Joyce by his side. He was born on May 2, 1938, at the Gifford Hospital in Randolph, Vermont. He was the 4rth child of Mary (Lincoln) and Milton Fullerton Sr. The Fullerton ancestry goes back to some of the first settlers in South Woodstock. He grew up on the family farm "Top Acres" on Fletcher Hill where they had dairy cows, chickens and large gardens and orchards. They would sell the extra produce as well as cord wood in town. Bruce learned carpentry skills from his father on the farm that would serve him well in later years.
Bruce attended the one room Fletcher School before heading to the Woodstock High School graduating in 1956. He loved sports and played on the basketball team. He stayed close to his classmates, especially in his later years. Following High School, he signed up for the US Army and was stationed in Korea after the war. Some of his time was in the border area between the north and south.
In the early 60s he went to Arizona – following his sister Marguerite and her family who had moved there for a few years. He worked as a builder in Los Angeles for a time during the explosive growth that took place in that region. He then settled in Tucson, AZ with his wife Elizabeth and became a contractor building many a house in the city. He came to love the southwest in its beauty and culture.
In later years he loved to travel in his truck camper, especially to the National parks. One of his last big trips was with his brother Stub in 2015 through the west and up into Alaska. He would bring the RV back to Vermont and park it up in the big field at Top Acres in the summers. He helped his siblings with carpentry projects around the farm and their homes.
He loved cars, motorcycles, western movies and talk radio. He loved a good conversation and was a good listener. He was a good friend, brother, and husband. His faith in God gave him strength and peace in his final years.
He leaves behind his wife Joyce in Sonoita, AZ, his older brother Erwin and his wife Polly of South Woodstock, VT, his younger sister Diane and husband Dave of Lyndonville, VT. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews in VT and NY as well as stepchildren and step grandchildren in AZ.
He was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth, his sister Marguerite in February 2020, his brother Milton (Stub) in August 2021, two stepsons, Patrick, and Mike.
Services are being planned for a later date and will be announced.
