Barbara R. VanHise, 84, died at her home in Reading on Tuesday morning July 16th surrounded by her family and her beloved cat Dante.

Barbara was born on September 11, 1928 in Alstead, New Hampshire the daughter of Ira and Maria (Hall) Richardson.

Barbara went to school at the Bailey's Mill School in Hammondsville until it closed then she went to the Reading School. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1946. Soon after High School she married Owen VanHise who pre deceased her on April 15, 1980.

Barbara worked for Watkins IGA for several years and then 22 years for Biben's Hardware in Springfield where she was known as the go to person for any questions or needs.

Barbara enjoyed traveling with her family to the Jersey Shore and more recently traveling with friends to Bermuda. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Friend.

Barbara is survived by her daughter-in-law Rhonda J. VanHise of Windsor, VT, two grandchildren Oliver Todd VanHise and his wife Kristle of Windham, ME and Jennifer Newman and her husband Aaron of Claremont, NH, and her six great grandchildren; Joshua, Kayla, Noah, Maya, Torey, and Cameron. In addition to her parents and her husband she is predeceased by her son Owen M. VanHise, JR on November 18, 2011, a brother Arthur Richardson and a sister Levina Herrick.

Private services will be held by the family with interment in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Lucy MacKenzie Humane Society, 4832 Vermont 44, Windsor, VT 05089.
