Barbara L. Ballard

A memorial service for Barbara L. Ballard, who died August 14, 2014, in Woodstock, Vermont will be held on Wednesday August 27th at 11:00 am at the Middleton Congregational Church in Middleton, MA. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Middleton.

Barbara was born in Saugus, MA on June 9, 1926, daughter of Herbert and Florence (Howard) Eckhardt. She moved to Middleton, MA at the age of 13, but continued her education in Saugus where she graduated from Saugus High School in 1943. She graduated with a Medical Secretary Degree from Burdett College.

Barbara worked at the family business, The Hygienic Laundry, in Lynn, MA, and for a short time at the Hogan School in Danvers, MA. She married Gerald Ballard on May 30, 1946 and loved the home that they built together. She lived in Middleton for the remainder of her life, and summered in South Woodstock, VT in the farmhouse bought by her parents as a second home.

Barbara's family was always her first priority and she was a gentle, kind mother who never raised her voice in anger. She developed enduring friendships, loved to garden and was a keen Whist player. A favorite hobby was searching for bargains at yard sales and flea markets. She was an avid reader and great fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and was a regular follower of Fox News, and supporter of the GOP.

Throughout her life, Barbara remained strong in her faith in Jesus, and this provided her with support and guidance. She loved to share her faith and counseled many people during their difficult times.

She will be missed greatly by her children and grandchildren: son Jay Ballard of Middleton, MA, daughter Lynne Ballard and husband Patrick Devlin, of Greenfield, MA son Lance Ballard and wife Doreen, of South Woodstock, VT, grandson Lucas Ballard and wife Joyce of San Jose, CA, granddaughter Erin Ballard and Fiancé Alfred (A.J.) Gauthier of Quechee, VT, and granddaughter Kelsey Ballard and partner Nick Conner, of Montpelier, VT. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Gerald, and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Green Mountain Perkins Academy in South Woodstock, VT.
