Obituary

Anita Kontis passed away peacefully March 15 th , 2022 in Woodstock, Vermont. She was born in Roche-la-Molière, France on July 10, 1926. It is here where she met her future husband, Basile, while growing up in the same apartment complex.

In October 1957, Anita and her family emigrated to New York in search of a better life. The family relocated to the Village of Mamaroneck in Westchester County, NY. Eager to assimilate to their new life, Anita and her husband took English speaking classes in the evenings, where they met and made longtime friends.

A short time later, Anita found work as a housekeeper, a role she held for 40 years. With her strong work ethic and endearing personality, she was considered family by her numerous employers and through the years shared in many momentous occasions with her extended families.

Anita's vocation was caring for her family, and her passion was cooking. Without any formal training, and combining both her French and Italian heritage, Anita created menus worthy of Michelin Five Star distinction. Anita loved to entertain, and every meal was a feast from beginning to end.

Anita had a wonderful sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. Her jovial personality made her the center of attention when enjoying good times with friends and family. She was the ultimate hostess and always first to help relatives and friends in need.

Anita was devoutly religious and exemplified great faith and loyalty to family. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone who knew her. Her legacy will live on in all of us.

Anita was predeceased by Basile, her loving husband of 70 years, in January of 2021. She is survived by three children and one grandchild: Anne-Marie Ryan of Scottsdale, AZ (Bob Ryan), Albert Kontis of Danbury, CT (Beverly Theimann), Caroline Schneider of Killington, VT (Ralph Schneider), and granddaughter, Jennifer Kroslak of Scottsdale, AZ, and various nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at St. Vito's Roman Catholic Church in Mamaroneck, NY at 11:00am on April 22, 2022, Anita and Basile's Wedding Anniversary.
